E3 Modelling

E3Modelling provides model-based policy relevant applied research and assessment of the macroeconomic, energy and climate implications of climate change and sustainable development policies. The company supports policy analysis by employing complex large scale applied mathematical models. Such models are used to make projections and analyze complex issues requiring system wide consideration while providing research support for energy and climate policy analysis. The company supports decision making of governments and institutions regarding energy policies, GHG mitigation policies and fiscal policies.

The company develops applied models that can be sectoral and regional specific.  The models can represent in great detail the operation of electricity markets, power supply and demand, transport, biomass production, the generation of GHG emissions and the different abatement technologies. The suite of models developed and maintained by E3-Modelling include global and EU specific multi-sectoral macroeconomic models, detailed partial equilibrium models for the transport and power generation sectors as well as sector specific models on agriculture, biomass and biofuels.

E3-Modelling staff assists institutions in developing their own models and using such models in policy analysis. Support has been provided to IPTS (Joint Research Centre of the European Commission) and the  Romanian government to train and familiarise their staff in the operation, development and use of computable energy-economy-environment models.

E3-Modelling maintains a large set of macroeconomic and energy data including social accounting matrices, fiscal data, energy balances, bilateral trade matrices, engineering data on technology costs, two-factor learning curves and sector-specific marginal abatement cost curves.
